Yes! Back on the road

The Arizona family say goodbye

Today was the day we planned to leave Nicole and Rod to their own travel plans this week. They were heading North, we continue South. This morning we packed up and said our good-byes and were ready to roll by early afternoon.

Once moving again we didn’t make it very far. I think our total miles today will be less than seventy. Instead of driving another hour, or more, to our original destination, we opted to hang out at a Travel Center (aka Truck stop) after only 90 minutes of driving. I finally caved in and bought a ice-cream sandwich and a small bag of jelly-beans. I’ve been dieing for some sweets all weekend, and now that I have finally gotten to get in some good exercise (3 days of running feels good) I caved into my sweet-tooth’s wishes.

When the sun was low in the sky, and the temperatures dropped, this huge gaggle… err, flock of birds came in to roost for the night in the trees surrounding where we parked. Mom remembers them from two years ago when we stayed a night at this very truck stop.  They flew around in formation… more like a synchronized dance than anything… and  drowned out the trucks with all the chirping. Once they settled down the trees were blackened by the sheer number of birds.

We decided to just stay here tonight. In the morning we will continue towards Tucson and possibly beyond… I guess we will just drive until we don’t feel like driving again… we only need to average 100 miles per day to get into Texas in time… so no rush.
