Surrounded by birds of prey

On a recent trip back from Lyons, CO where we enjoyed a cool brew at Oscar Blues Brewery, I turned Kerri to a particular road where I saw a nesting pair of Bald Eagles a few years back. As luck would have it, one was there so we pulled out the binoculars to sneak a peak before s/he flew off.

IMG_7518This morning, on our walk around Cattail Ponds, just outside the Boulder County Fairgrounds where we are camped, we came across a man-made nest for Osprey’s who return here each year. In fact, as you drive around the outskirts of town can see many poles with man-made nests created and maintained specifically for these birds of prey. A pair of binoculars can go a long way in Bolder County at this time a year. The two in the nest just a few hundred feet away have just begun mating for the season and eggs are expected by the end of this month. You can watch them via a live webcam mounted above the nest.
