Flyin south for the winter

Already packed and ready to go since Friday, we have delayed as long as we could. Sunday afternoon we will begin the next leg of the journey; the flight south. The first leg will only bring us into the Phoenix area to see Nicole and Rod before they too head off for an anniversary weekend. We plan to head down the HWY 395 corridor to before popping back into Nevada in time for a quick trip through Las Vegas (we wont be stopping) to see the Hoover Dam before heading into Arizona. It will be a 3-4 day leisurely drive to iron out all our  supplies and needs before heading off into Texas for a much longer period between safe-zones.

We have 18 days to make it into Texas, which is not any real problem as there is ample time to make the 1800 mile distance (100 miles per day average… nice). We have already reserved a space at an RV park just outside of San Antonio, TX for the weekend of the Formula 1 race. While it is 50 miles away from the race track, I feel good about the choice. With a heated pool, exercise room, and other amenities, we will be living it up for the 4-5 days we will stay there before heading off to Padre Island for some “rough” camping on the beach and a quick trip into Big Bend Ntnl Park too.
