Finally, I can check the box that I visited Carlsbad Caverns. This trip was planned two years ago but I did not make it, then again last year but a vehicle breakdown prevented me from making it. This year I only just made it and with only hours to spare....
Ugh! Im tired… after another 5 miles of great trail today I am beyond beat. The Northern part of Zion is much quieter with only about 10% of the traffic of the main canyon down south. Even with less traffic, it was rare that I had the trail to myself....
I drove into Zion Ntnl park and fixed me up some coffee and breakfast-burritos while watching the sunrise against the mountain side. Planning to hike the Angel’s Landing trail in a few hours; 5 miles of hard trail with the top of it being a cliff’s-edge scurry to the payoff...
Today I woke early to get into a hike to Wapama falls as early as possible. While I would have preferred to be hiking by 6am, the National Park does not open the gates until 8am. 7 miles past the gate is the dam which begins my 3-mile hike into...
My target for the day was the Hetch Hetchy Valley at the North-Western most boundary of Yosemite National Park. I arrived in the Stanislaus National Forest after two and a half hours of driving and pulled up to the Ranger kiosk to notice that the Hetch Hetchy area of Yosemite...

The Colorado National Monument reminded me of a smaller Canyonlands National Park; huge views and and huge cliffs that the camera never does justice. A very scenic area that makes a great day-trip for the family. It is an easy off and back on from I-70 and worthy of the...
We rolled out from just before 6am for the three hour driver into the park. When we arrived, all was looking good, though we were denied any camping spots (full + waiting list) that we were hoping to get for a single night. No big deal though… we figured it...
After an entire day of driving through two National Parks and hundreds of miles of lonely (but scenic) country roads, we ended up a few miles outside of Fossil Butte Ntnl Monument at the South-Western corner of Wyoming. This got us out of the foul weather, but no where near...
As we drove up and into the Flag Ranch area to find our Forest land camping area, we were greeted only with a road-closure sign which prevented us from going any further. This really threw a wrench in our plans and moved our entire trip forward a few days. We...
