The cost of March 2014

march_2014I am writing this post early this month.  I can do so because I am already back in Colorado and I have spent all that I am going too this month.

Nothing really out of the ordinary in my finances this month. As is the norm, Gasoline and Groceries top the list (I spent $20 more after writing this). I’d be pleased with my Grocery bill but for the fact that it was only 3 of the 4 weeks worth of groceries.

I did take on a small project inside the van, building up a top-shelf to hold the microwave and other food-stuffs. This freed up the counter space in the van for every-day use. It was worth the $58 cost.

The cost of two nights at the State Park was my only paid camping for the month. This brings my year-to-date paid camping to $55 (4 nights).

I did filter out a few items; Money sent back home, savings, and a few purchases (new laptop battery, and a ‘thank-you’ dinner in Vegas) that had no relevance in the scheme of van-living.

The end result does give me a month of living on less than $30 per day. $28.10 per day in fact. Obviously a few items can be shaven off but anything less than $30 and I am happy. The next few months will be back to urban camping, with higher camping costs but significantly lower fuel costs.
