Rocky Mountain Ntnl Park , Adams Falls hike

IMG_5175Located outside the park entrances, Adams Falls is accessed via the East Inlet trailhead just outside of Grand Lake. It is a large and quite busy trailhead as it leads the hiker past two water falls and numerous lakes and meadows without the need to pay for the National Park fees.

IMG_5202Our goal was the first set of falls, Adams Falls located only 0.3 miles from the trailhead, where we stopped to take a few photos of the falls and the plant life just beginning to bloom. While there, another couple of hikers informed us of two Moose up the trail a few minutes, so we hiked off to see if we can find them.

IMG_5209Where the trail opened up to a marshy meadow we spied a Moose a hundred yards out in the meadow, grazing under a tree. A few more minutes of hiking along the trail stirred a gentle rustling of tree branches just yards away. When I stopped to peak through, the baby Moose was standing not 30-feet from me. Momma and baby moose having breakfast and here we are too, how cool is that.

IMG_5217We positioned ourselves to take some photos without getting too close to the little one. Momma Moose kept a watchful eye on us, but did not seem threatened by us and never moved any close to protect the little one. Of course, I had brought the wrong camera lense so I was stuck without any good zoom, but the experience was great none the less.
