Moab Klondike Bluffs Mountain Biking

Klondike-N1I’m not sure why it was a smart idea to mountain bike two days in a row. And to top it off, this trail would extend my further ride record to 9.8 miles. My original plan was to take the ‘Dino-Flow’ trail out and return on the ‘EKG’ trail. That was until I saw that the EKG was the most advanced trail of them all, and well outside my ability after already riding 4.8 miles out.

While the trail was not as fun as the previous day’s riding at Brands Focus I did still have  a good time and learned a lot more about biking. My confidence is building, which is good considering I have a 24 year old, and more experienced rider, to ride with next week on these same trails. Literally, I barely made the distance. In the last 3.4 of a mile my thighs started cramping up. I had to stop and guzzle down as much water as I could to prevent this massive muscle cramp. Obviously I should have been drinking more during the ride, and something I will do next time out.

Let me also mention that I found two things after the day was done, 1) my front wheel was loose and it was a miracle that I had not crashed hard at some point in the past two days because of it, and 2) the posture I was riding the bike was quickly killing me (handle bars were too low and seat was too far back).

I decided not to boondock another night. Instead I returned to the Lazy Lizard Hostel for a much needed shower and to ride out the bad weather coming in over the weekend.
