I am a Moose

All the time I lived here it was only a block away from the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge. I had passed by it a half-million times and always wondered… so today I walked through the doors, simply to ask if I could camp in their parking lot for the few weeks I will be in town. The folks were so friendly they were actually going to allow it! I figured it was a one-in-a-million shot. The gentlemen was walking me through the lodge to show me where to park and I was astounded by what they have in there; pool tables, poker tables, a full bar and dance floor… heck, this was a man-cave if I’ve ever seen one. So, I filled out the paperwork and became a Moose.

Get this, there are over 1800 Moose lodges in the USA and I will be welcomed in any. Many allow their members to overnight stay in RVs (unofficially) and some even have full RV hookups. The Lodge itself even has a shower and free Wifi.

I am really looking forward to exploring what being a Moose is all about.

    Is it free for camping?

We were considering becoming Elks for the camping, but for that you need to have 2 sponsors. Congratulations!

I am not sure the cost of camping. I believe it is different for each Lodge, but this one here would not accept any payment from me (one reason I decided to apply and pay for a membership). I did a search on the Moose International webpage and found that not all Lodges offer RV camping, and I suspect each one asks different rates too.

I have stayed at lots of Moose clubs and they are all different. Some 20.00 and some are by donation. Some are free. No better place to stay and enjoy the company of their members.

How very cool is that! I will be sure to talk with the guys about that and see if there are any records kept of that.

Do any of the lodges allow members traveling by car to sleep overnight in their parking lots? I am interested in Florida.

I have stayed many nights in a van. I’m not sure about cars, but you can always call ahead and ask.
