Beaver Reservoir

ward-coJust North of Ward Colorado is Beaver Reservoir, accessible by a well graded dirt road (turn off Hwy 7 at sign for Boy Scout Camp, County Rd 96). Roughly 1.5 miles down the dirt road is the National Forest Boundary, which extends all the way to the reservoir (but not around it). This gives about a 1 mile stretch of dirt road in which boondocking is allowed and where I stayed the night.

IMG_5731I was surprised how many other people were out here on a Sunday night, with more than half of the established camping ‘spots’ being occupied. Luckily, the spots are separated by enough space to still give some privacy.

IMG_5741Once I chose my spot and parked the van in the exact right spot (I never get it right the first time), I unloaded the bike and road to the reservoir to check it out. I wish I had continued driving all the way up to the reservoir as there was a great camping area right at the reservoir itself, just before the National Forest boundary. It was good to get the exercise anyway.

Afterwards, I settled in back at camp to have a nice dinner of Chicken, rice, and green beans while watching the sun set.
